Dr. Derek Ching

Born and raised in Honolulu, I ventured out to the Midwest to receive my undergraduate degree from Creighton University and then graduated from the Creighton University School of Medicine. Eight years is a long time away from family, friends, and the ocean, so I was super excited to be able to return home for my Pediatric Residency at the Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children. I founded Children’s Doctors in 2007 and feel blessed that I’ve been able to learn and grow with my patients all these years. I’m passionate about health, fitness, and food—when I’m not in the office you can usually find me outdoors, in the gym, or in my kitchen! In my spare time, I enjoy fishing, diving, surfing, golfing, cooking, traveling, and spending time with my family and friends, especially my 2 rambunctious sons.

Dr. Tawni Gesteuyala

Hello! I joined Children’s Doctors in 2011 and my nickname quickly became “Dr. Tawni”. Born and raised on Oahu, I grew up on the windward side in Kahaluu and then attended the University of California at Los Angeles before returning home for Medical School at the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine. I completed my Pediatric Residency and then Chief Residency at the Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children. My role as a Pediatrician is to be a member of my patients’ healthcare team, working together in a partnership with both children and their families. As a mother of two beautiful girls, I love swapping parenting stories and truly enjoy getting to know my patients and their experiences. When I’m not at work, I’m spending time with my family, surfing or at least trying to, exploring new dessert places, and looking at Pinterest crafts I’ll likely never do. =)
